Chai is probably the only thing I can make well. Simply because I like drinking it. And since Candice asked me for the recipe, here it is. Because a good cup of chai is such an awesome thing when reading a book.
For two cups of tea:
Two cups of milk
One cup of water
Two teabags (I use Ceylon tea)
Pour the cup of water in a pot and throw in the two tea bags. Turn on the heat and boil it until the tea has steeped and the colour is nice and dark. Then add milk. And let it come to a boil again. Turn the heat off. Pour it into a cup (save one for later) and enjoy.
For masala chai, there are a variety of things you can add.
This is particularly good for when you have a sore throat and need something to soothe it. Grate several slivers into the tea in step one so that the flavour has time to come out. The amount of ginger you add depends on your taste.
Two: Other spices
I usually use a mixture of masala made by mom but when I’m out, these are the two I use most often. Together or separately. Usually separately.
Cardamom and Cinnamon
You will add these after you add the milk. I like both though I find the cinnamon to be slightly stronger than the cardamom. You could add nutmeg too.
But I find this to be a lot of work, grating the stuff. Haha. Ah yes, if you are adding cardamom, make sure you pop the pods open so the seeds can flavour your chai.
Enjoy with a book.
